The New Jim Crow was the Social Justice Month and Pastor's Book Club 100, adult, March 2015 book of the month.  The New Jim Crow was selected by Grace Literary Arts Ministry's (GLAM) as one of its Book Club, 2012 book of the month selections.  The New Jim Crow is recommended by Rev. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson for the leadership of Grace Baptist Church and he has made it a part of their required reading.

Michelle Alexander exposes the intentional use of policy and legislation to craft new Jim Crow laws that control citizens of color through mass incarceration.  Ms. Alexander substantiates statistical facts that show mass incarceration is being used as a tool to relegate millions of citizens to second-class citizenship through felony charges and selective prosecution of African American and Latino males, for drug possession, which takes away their rights to vote and earn a living while insuring that the continued growth of the criminal justice industry.
